Dyslipidemia: Genetics, lipoprotein lipase and HindIII

ثبت نشده
چکیده

The direct link between lipid metabolism alterations and the increase of cardiovascular risk are well documented. Dyslipidemias, including isolated high LDL-c or mixed dyslipidemia, such as those seen in diabetes (hypertriglyceridemia, high LDL-c or low HDL-c), correlate with a significant risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease worldwide. This review analyzes the current knowledge concerning the genetic basis of lipid metabolism alterations, emphasizing lipoprotein lipase gene mutations and the HindIII polymorphism, which are associated with decreased levels of triglycerides and LDL-c, as well as higher levels of HDL-c. These patterns would be associated with decreased global morbidity and mortality, providing protection against cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. 1,2 2 2,3 3

Effect of gene polymorphisms on lipoprotein levels in patients with dyslipidemia of metabolic syndrome.

Dyslipidemia in the metabolic syndrome (MS) is considered to be one of the most important risk factors for atherosclerosis. It is characterized by hypertriglyceridemia, low concentration of plasma HDL-cholesterol, predominance of small dense LDL particles and an increased concentration of plasma apolipoprotein B (apoB). The pathogenesis of this type of dyslipidemia is partially explained, but i...

Association between Lipoprotein Lipase Hind III Polymorphism and Serum Levels of Lipids in Semnan City

Background & Aims: Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is one of the key enzymes regulating the metabolism of triglycerides (TG) and HDL cholesterol. The lipoprotein lipase (LPL) gene polymorphisms are possibly involved in the pathophysiology of dyslipidemia. Hind III polymorphism is one of the most common polymorphisms in LPL gene. In some studies, association of Hind III polymorphism with dyslipidemia h...

Polymorphism of the lipoprotein lipase gene and risk of atherothrombotic cerebral infarction in the Japanese.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Lipid and lipoprotein abnormalities have been implicated in the pathogenesis of ischemic cerebrovascular disease and atherosclerosis. Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) plays an important role in plasma lipoprotein metabolism. Several studies have recently reported the presence of a relationship between Ser447Stop mutation of LPL and coronary artery disease. Other polymorphisms (Hi...

DNA variants at the LPL gene locus associate with angiographically defined severity of atherosclerosis and serum lipoprotein levels in a Welsh population.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) patients (n = 235), comprising minimal (CAD-, n = 124) and severe (CAD+, n = 111) CAD, were recruited on the basis of their angiographic scores. Male control subjects (n = 123) were selected randomly from the Caerphilly Heart Study cohort. Subjects were genotyped for the Ser447-Ter mutation and HindIII/Pvu II restriction fragment length polymorphisms of the lipopro...
